"Global desktop PC market demand slipped considerably in 2015 to around 114 million units, down 13.7% year-on-year. This is because the replacement demand for commercial desktop PCs triggered by Microsoft's decision in 2014 to end releasing updates for Windows XP did not continue into 2015," says Chris Wei, senior industry analyst with MIC.

"Coupled with delayed rollout of Intel's new products, the global desktop PC shipment volume was affected despite the boost from gaming desktop PCs which account for a relatively small share. Overall speaking, the global desktop PC market volume dipped considerably in 2015."

"In recent years, as the gaming ecosystem is shaping up, software and hardware developers, information service providers, and even governments have been attempting to unearth market opportunities coming from this new arena," says Claire Lin, industry analyst with MIC.
