Taiwan Teenagers Enthusiastic about Using CellPhones Internet

TAIPEI,Taiwan- According to a survey of Taiwanese teenagers’ Internet behavior which was carried out by Insight Xplorer and Foreseeing New Innovative Digiservices (FIND) together with several brand manufacturers in Taiwan, Taiwanese teenagers are extremely enthusiastic about using cellphones to surf the Internet. Nearly 70% of Taiwanese teenagers use cellphones to surf the Internet, and the highest portion of users are between the ages of 15 and 19 years old.

The survey showed that Taiwan has already entered the swipe screen generation. Following PCs (85.1%), smartphones are the second most popular devices (66.9%), and tablets are the third most popular devices (27.4%).

It is worth noting that that the rate of using cellphones to surf the internet was 70% higher for young people between the ages of 15 and 29 than for people aged 30 and above. This was especially true of people in the 15 to 19 age group, with a rate of 80.5%. This was almost equal to their rate of using desktop computers to surf the Internet (82%).

As for cellphone app and Internet use, the top three most used services in Taiwan were social networking (72.9%), news (55.6%), and instant messaging (54.8%). In particular, the university student group, which was between the ages of 20 and 24, was the most active group and had the highest participation rates for all types of Internet activities.

They also had much stronger requirements than the other groups for each method of looking up information, such as Blog forums, information searches, news literature and information about life and leisure, and email and messaging tool apps.

As for sources of information, the Internet as already become the main source for news and social information (73.3%), followed by television (51.6%). The 20-24 age group also showed the strongest preference for using the Internet to access news information (82.5%).
