Sunrex Computer, Chicony Electronics, and Darfon Electronic have occupied the notebook keyboard 90 percent market share in the world, which is a defensive line to the red supply chain. Cai Huo-lu , Chairperson of Sunrex Computer said that the manufacture process of keyboards is very complicated that China rivals can't keep up with Taiwanese firms.

“The technologies of manufacturing notebook keyboard and procedures are complicated, one production line is needed 26 experienced manpower so that the Chinese keyboard firms can't compete with us,” said Cai Huo-lu.

Cai Huo-lu disclosed that many notebook OEM/ODM frims were trying to manufacture the keyboard, but gave up in the end because of the cost. “They tend to cooperate with professional notebook keyboard providers.” Cai Huo-lu added.

The backlit keyboard has become the mainstream product of Sunrex Computer, which ranked 40 percent of shipment on October.

Many information technology market research and advisory companies forecast that the demand of tablet has shrunk in 2014, while the demand of notebook is turning bullish. Some of which even predicted that the demand of notebook will slightly rise.

Facing the challenge from the Chinese componet firms, Taiwanese componet firms need to act fast in case of being exceeded. For example, many Taiwanese touch panel firms have transformed because of losing to Chinese firms, according to Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center of Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan.
