TAIPEI, Taiwan — The demand of mid-tier handsets is rising, which benefits ODM firms. Taiwanese handset developers sought ODM in China in thw past, now the trend has been changed since the Chinese top three ODM firm HaiPai Noble Technologies opened an office in Taiwan, aiming at the mid-tier handsets orders from HTC, ASUS, and Acer.

HaiPai Noble Technologies is also headhunting MediaTek's staff in a view to establish the Taiwan office as their R&D base.

Source said that the Taiwanese handset maker HTC has been looking for new Original Design Manufacture (ODM) partners for their coming new handsets since this October, it is said that the company's ODM percentage will jump from this year's 40 percent to 70 percent in 2015. In addition to Taiwnaese ODM partners like Compal Electronics and Chinese ODM partner Wingtech, HaiPai Noble Technologies will be HTC's new ODM partner.

Source pointed out it's rarely seen that HaiPai Noble Technologies directly opened its Taiwan office in Neihu with 200 employees instead of conducting through an agency, and many MediaTek's staff were headhunted.

HaiPai Noble Technologies is an experienced ODM firm, ZTE Corporation, Huawei, Coolpad, and Lenovo are its customers. The company only needs less half a year to develop a smartphone, which poses a threat to Taiwanese ODM firms.

The so-called red supply chains are developing international markets, after BYD, Longcheer, and Wingtech, HaiPai Noble Technologies opened an office in Taiwan. Analyst said that those Chinese firms come to Taiwan in a bid to establish a strong relationship with Taiwanese and global IT supply chains, for instance, to directly connect with Taiwanese lens modules giant Largan Precision and phone case giant Catcher.
