Sony Launches Quad Core Processor Smartwatch in Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan- Sony in Taiwan yesterday announced the SmartWatch 3, which uses the Google Android Wear platform and includes a 1.6 inch and 320 X 320 resolution TFT LCD screen and a built-in Qualcomm ARM A7, 1.2GHz quad core processor. Sony also announced the SmartBand Talk SWR30.

Sony SmartWatch 3 is the first smartwatch that uses the Android Wear platform in Taiwan. It is equipped with a 1.6 inch and 320 X 320 resolution TFT LCD screen and a built-in Qualcomm ARM A7, 1.2GHz quad core processor. In addition, it also features 512 MB RAM and 4GB ROM memory as well as a microphone, an accelerometer, a digital compass, and Gyro and GPS sensors.

Android Wear is a platform that Google has developed for smartwatches. Chip companies such as Qualcomm, Intel, Samsung, and MediaTek have all joined this platform. The following products that use this platform are currently on the market: Samsung Gear Live, LG G Watch, HTC On Wear and Moto 360.

Wearable devices and IoT applications are already key developing markets for all of the major chip companies, and it is estimated that in 2015 more smartwatches will hit the market. It is expected that the mass production of the Apple Watch, in particular, will drive more companies to enter this market.
