The III/FIND survey found the number of APPs downloaded on smart devices and tablet computers in Taiwan: an average of 18.7. However, during the past two weeks there was only a total average of 6.5 users who opened their APPs. Compared to 2013, when the average number of downloads was 22.5 and 7.5 APPs used, the figures fell slightly in 2014.

III/FIND Team Leader Zheng Ren-fu stated although the number of consumers of APPs is not very large, looking at the average time spent using APPs, APP users spend a daily average of 132 minutes using APPs, and users in the 20-34 age group spend an average of over 2.5 hours a day using APPs.

Team Leader Zheng emphasized that APP contents have a high degree of adhesion, and the market groups have already taken shape.

As for the categories of APP use, the ratios for the top three types of smart device owners are as follows: “Social Contact and Chatting” – 73.5 out of 100 people; “Entertainment” – 44 out of 100 people; “Mobile Gaming” – 43.9 out of 100 people.

Zheng Ren-fu pointed out that as consumers’ APP use behavior has gradually matured and stabilized, consumers have already become very accustomed to regularly finding the content that they need on mobile devices.

As for the content of new APPs, it will be increasingly difficult to create large amounts of downloads and user flow, and ways for APPs to provide value for terminal users must be considered.
