Disregards Quantum Dot, Innolux Focus on Self-own WCG Tech

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwanese display panel makers Innolux today said at its investor conference, they will not develop the quantum dot technology, but focus on the development of its own wide color gamut technology to provide better color display quality.

Quantum dot is one of display technology to enhance the color gamut of LCD panel, by adding a nanoscale particles-film on backlight panel, keeps the spectrum of backlight more delicate, to provide better color rendering. Including Samsung, AUO and LG Display have launched the relevant products.

Hsing-Chien Tuan, Chairman of the Board and CEO, said that quantum dot technology consumes more energy, and also uses environmental pollution materials (such as: cadmium), not consistent with the trend of the global industrial Development, therefore Innolux will not develop related products.

He noted that the quantum dot technology is mainly used to increase the color gamut of display panel, but Innolux will use its own technology to breakthrough the bottleneck of color display. And the current wide color gamut panel products is the best outcome, meanwhile, the company also get a lot of recognitions from customers, prove the strength of Innolux’s wide color gamut technology.

As for the progress of AMOLED and IGZO, Innolux said that they are keeping on track of all new technologies, but will not rush to launch, will choose the best timing to enter the market.
