TAICS Hosts International 5G Technology Workshop for Standardized Development

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan Association of Information and Communication Standards (TAICS), Chunghwa Telecom, and MediaTek on October 15 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan held the “5G Technology Workshop – Potential Technology for 3GPP Rel-15 Standardization.” During the event, international representatives were invited to share the current state of 5G development in a variety of countries.

Taiwanese companies including MediaTek, Chunghwa Telecom, Industrial Technology Research Institute (TTRI), Institute for Information Industry, SERCOM, Arcadyan Technology Corporation, and Gemtek all showcased new 5G technologies at the exhibition. Of the technologies, mmWave received the most attention from companies such as MediaTek and ITRI which presented corresponding products and testing programs.

In addition, Internet of Things (IoT) equipment for home and small and medium sized enterprise use and network communications solutions are important markets for the 5G industry.

TAIC Chairman Jonathan Tsang stated that the development of fifth-generation mobile information technology will not only improve applications for interpersonal interactions, but more importantly, it will increase the number of connections between things.

At the seminar, SERCOM showcased an entire series of Small Cell small base platforms for home, enterprise and outdoor use. Their specialty is Low-Power Wide-Area (LPWA) networking technology such as LB-IoT, Cat-M1 and LoRa technologies to satisfy the requirements of large-scale machine to machine (M2M) communications.

Arcadyan Technology Corporation concentrates on broadband, multi-media, mobile communications, and Wi-Fi solutions. They also do research and development for the design of a variety of client network access equipment while integrating language and multi-media technologies in order to provide intuitive user-friendly operation interfaces that are developed from the user’s point of view.

Gemtek demonstrated its LTE solution in the workshop. Gemtek not only has CPE end-to-end solution, but also was dedicated to the R&D of small cell, UE Relay, and backhaul solution to provide any integrated service, features with the latest technology.
