This collaboration will mainly be focused on the NAND Flash memory market. This is because the companies with a current grasp of the global NAND industry are mainly from Japan, the United States, and South Korea, such as Samsung, Toshiba, SK Hynix Semiconductor Inc., and Micron Technology Inc.
On the other hand, Taiwanese companies in the domain of memory production primarily specialize in DRAM; however, they also have several years of experience in the domains of NAND control chips and testing and packaging. YMTC’s main products are storage flash memory (NAND) products, and they have already begun mass production with the assistance of Mainland Chinese funding.
The economic daily news pointed out that YMTC has already established a 12-inch chip plant in Wuhan and are approaching their goal of having a monthly production capacity of 300,000 chips. Meanwhile, memory packaging is being carried out by the Mainland Chinese companies, ChipMOS and SPIL.
