Wu Cheng-wen, senior vice president and chief technical expert of ITRI, said that southern Taiwan is an important automotive parts manufacturing location on the island.

However, with the development of net zero emissions and electric vehicles, many car electronics including battery, motor, and electrical control systems will replace traditional car engines, flue tanks, and gearboxes which many manufacturers in southern Taiwan are going to face severe challenges.

The ITRI follows the core concept of the government's Great Southern Plan to build a compound semiconductor and application industry chain in the south and guides private investment to assist automotive component factories to build a compound semiconductor power component ecosystem, giving Taiwan a competitive advantage and in line with the upcoming golden age of electric vehicles.

It is estimated that after the program is launched this year, it will boost the willingness and speed of Taiwanese factories to invest in compound semiconductors, and establish an independent key technology and supply system for compound semiconductors at an early date.

Besides, to make good use of semiconductor component design capabilities to develop key power ICs of electronic Vehicles. And connected to upstream and downstream industries such as electric vehicles and wind power in Taiwan, bringing new prosperity to Taiwan.
