Holtek wishes to announce the release of its new Smoke Detector dedicated MCUs, the BA45F5240 and BA45F5240-2. As both devices include a fully integrated smoke detector AFE and a dual channel IR emission driving circuit, they should find excellent use in smoke detection and smoke/temperature detection composite products, such as smoke detectors/alarms, smoke and temperature detectors/alarms, etc.

The devices contain a 4K×16 Flash Program Memory, a 128-byte Data Memory, a 64-byte true Data EEPROM and 8 stack levels, etc. With regards to peripheral features, the devices also include a 10-bit Timer Module, a multi-channel 12-bit A/D converter, a low power consumption HIRC oscillator and a UART/I2C/SPI communication interface module to name but a few.

The most significant features of the devices are their smoke detector AFE and their dual channel IR emission driving circuit. The fully integrated smoke detector AFE is composed of two operational amplifiers as well as additional amplifying and filtering circuits. The operational amplifier on/off control, amplification gain adjustment and AC/DC coupling switching, etc., can all be controlled using the application program. These make the devices especially suitable for smoke detector and alarm application development. They also have the additional advantages of reduced power consumption and enhanced stability under smoke-free conditions.

The dual channel IR emission driving circuit can select 32 programmable constant current levels (CH0: Max. 360mA in 10mA steps; CH1: Max. 205mA in 5mA steps) and can effectively resolve sensitivity problems by providing a dual emission solution. With these two unique functions, it is only necessary to add an infrared transmission/receiver pair to implement a smoke detection function, providing a great reduction in external component costs.

The devices are supplied in both 16-pin NSOP and 20-pin SSOP package types making them applicable for use in a range of smoke detection and smoke/temperature detection product design requirements.
