TAIPEI, Taiwan — More than 13,000 job opportunities will be offered by nearly 190 domestic and foreign companies during the two-day job fair in Tainan, according to National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, where the Southern Region Job Fair will take place on March 15 and 16.

A total of 21 celebrated companies will conduct briefing sessions at the NCKU International Conference Hall on the first day of the event, while the second day will feature approximately 189 domestic and foreign companies setting up 234 booths at the NCKU Chung Cheng Hall with an estimated 13,216 job opportunities available.

The fair will cover all major areas including semiconductor, electronics, electrical, optical, finance, education, real estate and so on, with the firms including TSMC, UMC, Foxconn Precision, Innolux, Largan Precision, IBM, Asus, Yulon Group, China Motor, Formosa Plastic, Uni-President, China Trust, First Bank, Fubon, Commonwealth Magazine.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), Innolux and other large firms have also taken the recruitment very seriously by setting special areas for interview on March 16.

“Although job fairs in Northern Taiwan might have more job vacancies on offer, Southern Taiwan provides a better working environment with relatively similar benefits and compensation for jobs on both sides due to the its relatively low cost of living, pleasant climate and kind and caring people,” said NCKU President Hwung Hwung-hweng.

President Hwung encourages job-seeking young adults to work in the south, pointing out that it is easier to buy a house and lead a healthy, happy life in the south.

Besides, President Hwung also took the opportunity to rectify the wrong references he made during his interview with Business Week magazine last May.

President Hwung explained in the magazine article that in the 100 academic year, approximately 60% and 30% of the total NCKU graduates opted to work and continued to pursue Master's degree respectively while the unemployed rate was found to be a mere 5.87%.

However, statistics at the NCKU Career Consultant Division for the 100 academic year graduates revealed that approximately 80% of NCKU graduates were employed within 6 months after graduation and this statistic exceeds 90% for students who graduated from NCKU Department of Life Sciences and Social Sciences.

Interestingly, high technology firms dominate the list of talent-seeking companies in the Southern Region Job Fair this year. Based on this observation, President Hwung urged Taiwan's traditional firms to launch a more proactive and expanded talent search in order to help solve unemployment problems among young adults effectively.

“The Southern Region Job Fair organized by NCKU is always the most successful and most attractive talent recruitment event every year,” praised Chen Yang-shih, Director of the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Region Branch of Workforce Development Agency.

It is noteworthy to mention that TSMC, UMC and Innolux has not only set up specially designed booth for the job fair on March 16, but also prepared a special area for on-the-spot job interview.

According to reports, TSMC is expected to offer 3000 to 5000 quality job opportunities on that day while mobilizing 25 executives and providing preliminary evaluation of online resume, interview and English test for job applicants.

In addition, TSMC has also prepared a space specially prepared for women at their booth to encourage more female job applicants to submit their resume, thus eliminating the stereotype of a male-dominant technology sector in the past.

Meanwhile, “Professionalism, Growth, Challenge, Innovation, Lifestyle” will be used by UMC as the theme of their talent recruitment efforts at their booth.

The company is expected to offer 1200 job vacancies with a group of 15 to 25 executives made available to conduct interviews on the spot.

In addition to actively recruiting engineers, UMC will also provide internship opportunities in Hsinchu Science Park, Southern Taiwan Science Park and Singapore to local and international students in order to fast track their future careers.

Innolux, a large manufacturer of photovoltaic that regards NCKU as an important source of talents, is also expected to recruit at least 1000 fresh graduates and research and development substitute services in view of energizing the panel industry in Taiwan.

Their booth will include many thoughtful services such as interactive games and the company's own QR-code electronic resume for job application, where job seekers will receive job vacancies and latest news of the company.

Moreover, job seekers who submit their resumes to Innolux on the day will stand a chance to win return air tickets to Hong Kong.

On March 15, there will also be briefing sessions by companies such as TSMC, Uniqlo, Unilever, Ford Lio Ho and many others to provide opportunities for current and future job seekers to understand the industries and the future career development in these industries.

Participants who attend these briefing sessions will also stand a chance to win a NTD500 7-Eleven cash voucher.
