The achievement reflects Yang's expertise in the field of education – both domestic and international – and is an exemplary example of the cooperation between the education sector, local government, and industry, according to the university.

The 2014 Microsoft in Education Global Forum – an annual pilgrimage for educational elites worldwide – took place in Barcelona, Spain this year, garnering the attendance of more than 1,100 educational experts, school principals, teachers, and governmental officials from over 100 countries.

Prof. Yang was invited to serve as the jury for the Microsoft in Education Global Forum “Innovative Teaching Design Marathon” for the Taiwan region.

After fierce competition, 4 teams were chosen to represent Taiwan in the global competition: the New Taipei Municipal Banqiao Senior High School, New Taipei Municipal Mingder High School, Tainan Municipal Ho Shun Junior High School, and Yu-Tsai Bilingual Elementary School.

Under the intensive training and tutelage by Yang and others, the Taiwan Representative Team battled against 269 teams of elites from all over the world in 3 rounds of eliminations over a period of 4 days.

This year's 24 hour “Innovative Teaching Design Marathon” has gender equality, poverty, and environment as the 3 issues of discussion.

Each topic had 18 teams – with the team members being randomized to form 54 groups of cross-border cooperation – and were each given 24 hours to brainstorm teaching activities that not only enhance student learning, but is also creative and demonstrates effective use of technology.

The Taiwan delegation was represented by Mr. Zhuang Yun-xi of Tainan Municipal Ho Shun Junior High, who worked flawlessly with teachers from Singapore, Puerto Rico, and Belgium to snag 3rd place in the gender equality sector of the competition, winning a medal for Taiwan, and making Taiwan's first mark in the arena of worldwide education.

The achievements of this competition can be attributed to the long-term cooperation with Microsoft to promote the global “Partners in Leaning” scheme, which planted the philosophy of innovative teaching in teachers, according to Yang.

As host of the Ministry of Education Action Learning Project, she adds that she is “impressed by the willingness of education practitioners to invest the time to develop creative teachings plans.”

As tutor to the Taiwan Representative team, Yang's experience as a member of the International Jury in the many years past is invaluable to the success of this year's performance, in addition to the team's outstanding teamwork and professional expertise.
