MediaTek’s New Chip to Mass Production in September

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Xie Qing-jiang, general manager of MediaTek, said on Thursday in press conference in Beijing that the revenue of octa-core products accounted for more than 20% of total smartphone lineup in the last quarter. The new 64 bit, 4G LTE SoC chip will be in production in September.

MediaTek announced the world's first octa-core smartphone processor -MT6592 last year, which be adopted by ZTE, Huawei, Cool, Lenovo and other Chia brands, in addition, India's mobile phone brand also uses MediaTek’s octa-core chip to highlight their new smartphone, given it a big boost to hit a sales record of new product first sold in single-season, shipment of which is expected to more than 6 million units.

This year at the World Communications Conference (MWC), the MediaTek announced two new octa-core SoC chips with 64-bit and 4G LTE specifications, but has not disclosed the time of production.

Xie Qing-jiang said that both chips will be synchronized in volume production in September, end-product will be available on end of this year.

He noted that MediaTek hopes to continue growth in China and other emerging markets, while strengthening its capacity of technology, to enter the high-end product market.
