Xiaomi Will Not Enter Electrical Vehicle Market

TAIPEI, Taiwan- In response to reports by Taiwanese media that Xiaomi is rumored to be entering electrical vehicle and real estate markets, Xiaomi founder and chairman Lei Jun microblogged on Weibo to clarify that Xiaomi currently has no such plans.

In April of this year, Chinese media asserted that Lei Jun made an appearance in March at the Conference on Connected Vehicles of China 2014 and talked about plans to launch Xiaomi electrical vehicles, estimating that production could begin in 2015 at the earliest.

Regarding this, Lei Jun wrote on Weibo to state that currently Xiaomi is concentrating on mobile devices (cell phones and Tablet PCs) and smart home appliances (televisions, set top boxes and routers) with the aim of “making good products that are affordable for more people.” He also stated that currently Xiaomi is “not considering entering additional markets, such as electrical vehicles and real estate.”

On the other hand, Lei Jun also announced on Weibo that Xiaomi will hold a new product launching ceremony on July 22, and based on the “4” pattern posted by Lei Jun, it is speculated that the Xiaomi M4 smartphone is the new product that will be launched.
