HTC Unveils Low-Priced Smartphone One E8 in Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan — HTC launched One E8 in Taiwan on Monday, which is a low-priced version of its flagship handset One M8 in a bid to create new sales momentum of the mid-tier handset in Q3 and Q4. The E8 comes in red, white, grey, and blue, a more colorful version of the metal-cased flagship model, the price tag is NT$14,900.

“HTC in the high-end smartphone market is very steady, now that we are doing our best to boost the sales of our mid-tier series, especially in the 4G era,” said Jack Tong, Head of China and President of North Asia. “Our 4G smartphone products are in place, M8 aims at the high-end market, E8 is for price-sensitive and those value cost performance, HTC Desire 816 is for the enry-level users.”

“I think that the high-end handset makers will only have two giants survived here in Taiwan, most of the high-end smartphones will be replaced by mid-tier ones.” Tong added.

The E8 is equipped with a 5-inch 1080p full-HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz quad-core processor, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in memory and a 2,600 mAh battery.

The E8 also supports full-spectrum 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity in Taiwan, including the 700 MHz, 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency bands.

Moreover, same as M8, the E8 is also paired with the Dot View phone case, not only comes in grey, but also orange, purple, and blue.

The new model will go on sale at HTC stores on July 24th, and via major local telecommunication operators on Aug. 1st.
