MediaTek's Become Supplier of Vodafone

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Integrated Circuit (IC) design firm MediaTek's 4G system chipset was released this month. Its 4G chipset has been used by international telecom Vodafone's Smart 4 Power 4G handset, which means MediaTek became supplier of Vodafone that will be a focus on its investor conference next week.

MediaTek is going to hold an investor conference next week, products' price, storage, 4G customers are hot issues of which. Source said that in Q3 MediaTek's revenue still can increased 10 percent.
Vodafone teamed up with MediaTek, Vodafone is sold in more than 30 countries, and has 300 million users. Vodafone first cooperated with Mediatek in 2009 and 2011 in smartphones' chipset, but now it's the first time to be a chipset supplier of Vodafone's customized handset.
Vodafone will roll out a 4G entry-level handset Smart 4 Power in the UK. The Smart 4 Power goes a step above its predecessor Turbo with a 5-inch qHD display and a 1.3GHz quad-core processor from MediaTek's MT6290 and MT6582, which has been specially tuned to allow super fast connection to the 4G network.
There's also a 5-megapixel camera, and a massive 3000mAh battery to power Smart 4 Power through a wealth of 4G entertainment as well as smooth video playback.
Source said that in the Q3 and Q4 MediaTek will do their best in boosting its 4G products. MT6290 will occupy its 4G products' shipment in 60 percent to 70 percent. As the strong demand from the market and MediaTek's 4G product line is in place, their 4G chipset will be sold better than 15 million units or even up to 20 million units by the end of this year.
According to the media report from South Korea, in order to keep their 4G chipset market share up to 70 percent in China, MediaTek will cut the price of its AP, SoC, and LTE chipset to outshine its competitor Qualcomm.
In the coming investor conference, since Q3 has stepped into the 4G era, all the above topics will be the hot issues then.
