MediaTek Sets Up Second R&D Center in India

TAIPEI, Taiwan- According to India news reported, MediaTek has announced the investment of US$ 0.2 billion to setup the second research center in Bengaluru India, India will become the second large oversea base after China in Asia.

MediaTek also going to expand its man power scale, expect to recruit one hundred R&D staff, and over five hundreds employees in India in the coming years.
MediaTek stressed that the establishment of R&D center in India, is to meet the needs of the consumer of emerging markets, especially southeast Asia. In addition to provide wireless communication solutions, will offer networking and home entertainment products.
India's population over 1.2 billion, is the world's second most populous country. IDC noted that the second quarter of this year, India's smartphone shipments reached 18.4 million units, with annual growth of 84%, forecast annual smartphone shipments will grow more than 100% in 2018.
According to IDC, the second quarter of this year, India's top five mobile phone brand is Samsung (17%), Micromax (14%), Nokia (10%), Karbonn (9%), Lava (8%).
Taiwan’s Asus, HTC, and China’s Xiaomi are also focusing on Indian smartphone market.
