Largan Plans to Expansion for High Phone Camera Demand
Taipei , Taiwan - Largan has confirmed an expansion plan on Sunday, will start looking for about 9.7 hectares of land to build a new plant in Taichung...
In order to expand its production capacity and satisfy market demands for micro-lenses, last October, Largan planned to make the land next to its Taichung headquarters in the Taichung City Precision Machinery Innovation Technology Park the location for its new factory and to commence construction during this quarter.
Furthermore, in order to continue increasing its market share, expanding production capacity has become an essential investment for Largan. Especially with the increasingly high challenges for micro-lens yield enhancements, the construction time for the new factory cannot be delayed too long.
Therefore, in order to increase the speed of construction for the new factory, Largan’s investment plan of expanding its factories in increments has been changed to a one-time construction project, which will be completed earlier than originally planned in 2016.
Largan CEO Lin En-Ping stated that excluding the dust-free room, the factory construction will be completed in 2016, and mass production of just cellphone camera lenses will begin in early 2017. Currently, Largan has a 20% global market share for cellphone camera lenses.
Largan is also the main supplier of Apple’s optical lenses, and owing to the hot sales of the iPhone 6 last year, Largan’s annual net profit after taxes was NT$ 19.43 billion, which was a record high.
