Apple pay service is currently available in the US, Canada, England, Australia, Singapore and China. Taiwan is the 3rd nation in Asia to welcome this platform. Token is a crucial security technology for Apple pay to protect transaction details. According to the Taiwan’s regulation, mobile payment providers will be allowed to choose their own Token Service Provider (TSP) in either foreign or domestic.

Taiwan Mobile Payments Co (TWMP), the domestic TSP provider, established in 2014 by three Taiwanese banking group, has set up an NFC-based (near field communication) system for mobile payment. The China Times also reported earlier that technicians from the TMPC have been in communication with their counterparts at Apple to discuss potential technical issues, such as allowing TMPC platforms to handle the Apple Pay transactions. Wei-Jong Pan, CEO of TWMP, also warned that, it is most concerned about Apple Pay's service quality and security, as its TSP is operated by institutions based outside of Taiwan.

Marco Ma, Visa's country manager for Taiwan , said that at Visa Token Service seminar last month, Visa that provide TSP platforms have clarified how credit card information, or transactions made through TSPs, were all handled by local credit card centers and banks. In addition, Visa Token Service wouldn’t contact any personal information throughout transaction process.

However, tokenization by a local company should certificated by Visa-branded cards for more than a year. The following issue is that whether the major global networks such as Visa will allow for the local providers to compete fairly.
