The GH-8111 series are based on the patented "TrueSecure" 3D fingerprint recognition technology, which uses IR LEDs to generate a light source to penetrate the finger. It then uses an opto-coupler to detect the light source internally reflected from the finger, the resulting analog signal is then converted into a digital signal using an A/D converter thus generating a digital image of the finger which can then be transmitted out via its high speed SPI interface.

With a thickness of only 1.2mm, an effective capture area of 8mm × 8mm and an ultra-high resolution of 1000dpi (320 × 320 pixels), the GH-8111 series can detect refined fingerprint details such as sweat pores and can also detect dry, moist, female (fine), elderly (rough) and fake fingerprints.

By providing a 6H coating or 8H of glass hardness for good wear resistance, the devices can withstand more than one million touch operations. The devices have passed a 15kV high ESD test and high ambient light test (high power halogen lamp, >1,000,000 lux). Their operating voltage is 3.3V, the operating current is 30mA, the standby current is as low as 5μA and the operating temperature range is -20°C ~ +60°C.

Additionally the GHM-8111 series are embedded fingerprint modules which include a GH-8111 series fingerprint sensor as well as an internal Holtek ARM Cortex-M3 32-bit microcontroller which includes all the necessary fingerprint recognition algorithms. These modules include an internal UART interface allowing them to implement a full range of fingerprint recognition operations using specific simple protocols for a wide array of biometric products.
