When the display content is static and not changing there is zero power consumption with the display remaining constant even when power is removed. With its high black and white colour contrast and reusable features, it is suitable for use in applications such as electronic shelf labels, medical displays, smart wristbands, message displays, thermometers and hygrometers, etc.

The device supports 120-segment, 1-BG and 1-COM output pins. The output drivers have three driving voltage levels to match the characteristics of the EPD being used. It can drive black, white and red electronic paper types. Its 4 sets of combination pins can simplify the PCB layout according to the panels used and can be set to either BG or COM types using instructions. The integrated charge pump circuit can output a high voltage allowing the device to be used in single power source applications. These features combine to permit reductions in the external component count as well as being able to extend the number of display pixels by serially connecting the devices together.

Additionally and specifically aimed at EPD characteristics, the device also offers an internal look up table, temperature sensor, automatic frequency conversion and an old/new display data comparison function. With regards to packaging the device is available in a Gold Bump Dice type as well as COG and COF package types.
