Parade Technologies, a video display, touch controller, and high-speed interface IC supplier, today announced new additions to its family of USB Type-C port configuration switch devices.

The PS8750 and PS8751 are port configuration switches that include high-speed signal redriver circuitry and respectively integrate the USB PD (Power Delivery) Controller and Port Controller, providing integrated USB Type-C Power Delivery support. The PS8750 and PS8751 accommodate the USB 3.1 Gen 1 data rate of 5Gbps, and DisplayPort Alt Mode at link rates up to 5.4Gbps (HBR2).

The PS8750 and PS8751 provide the full functionality needed to support the USB Type-C receptacle of a Host (DFP) Device and include the support of a DisplayPort Alt Mode Source (DFP-D). System applications include smartphones, tablets, notebook and desktop personal computers, and accessories such as docking stations.

The PS8750 and PS8751 include the port configuration switch that enables plug flipping and interfacing to various downstream device types. Integrated high-speed signal redrivers are included to improve signal integrity. For USB Power Delivery, the devices support Provider, Consumer, and Dual Role Swap configurations.

The PS8750 integrates a full USB-PD Controller, compliant with the USB Power Delivery Specification, eliminating the need for an external USB-PD Controller chip. The PS8751 integrates a USB-C Port Controller, compliant with the USB Type-C Port Controller Interface Specification, for those systems using an embedded USB Type-C Port Manager. The USB PD Controller / Port Controller function is MPU based and includes an embedded SPI ROM and VCONN switch.

“The PS8750 and PS8751 provide the next level of integration that OEMs want for USB Type-C enabled Host systems,” said Jimmy Chiu, Executive VP of Marketing at Parade Technologies.

“Implementers are finding that the USB-C port configuration switch must always be used with redrivers if they want to meet compliance and reliability interoperate with other systems. Plus, each port also needs a USB PD Controller or Port Controller function, depending on system architecture. The PS8750 and PS8751 provide all of this in one package, which simplifies design, lowers cost, and shrinks system size.”
