Taiwan's Ministry of Technology Established for Innovation

TAIPEI , Taiwan - Taiwan's Ministry of Science and Technology(MOST) found today, as the competent authorities of Taiwan's overall science and technology policy and implementation, the first minister of MOST is the former NSC chairman Zhang Shanzheng, he said MOST will strengthen industry-university cooperation, encourage academic innovative and deliver to industry.

MOST is reorganized from National Science Council (NSC), the predecessor of NSC was National long-term development of the Scientific Committee, established in 1959. NSC completed three important tasks, including the promotion of the whole technology development in Taiwan, support academic research, and the development of science parks during the half century, and it make the establishment of MOST full of hope.

Zhang Shan-zheng said that he would follow the great tradition of the NSC, continue to guide industry and academia work together; previously carried out policies, including “5G Small Apple Project” and “Great Talent and Vision 2.0” will continue to carry out.

5G Small Apple Project is one of the major policy of the MOST, mean Taiwanese companies should avoid competition with Apple and other international brands, should focus on niche products. In terms of the policy, the government will guide the domestic industry to develop innovate device mounted on a hand-held communication devices, such as wearable devices with special functions.

Great Talent and Vision 2.0 plan is to encourage research institute propose large-scale projects through government agencies, to balance resources between academia and the business community, and to promote research institutions to establish stable relations of cooperation with academic institutions.

He also stressed that that the establishment of the MOST, will be more emphasis on cooperation with the ministries, not monopolize all the technological affairs.
