Taiwan's LCD Makers Support Cross-Strait ATS, Call for Free Competition

TAIPEI, Taiwan -Cross-Strait Agreement on Trade in Services(ATS) sparked a huge controversy in Taiwan, also to shut down Parliament. The subsequent impact on the negotiation of trade agreements with China, raise the concern of electrics industry.

LCD panel makers AUO and Innolux have expressed support for multilateral trade relations, hope the government can create open competition market.

Including the Taipei Computer Association , Taiwan Cloud Application Services Alliance, Taiwan Internet Of Thing Alliance, AU Optronics, Delta Electronics , Lite-On and other 17 companies, jointed advertising in the newspaper to support Cross-Strait ATS for facilitating the long term development of the country.

AUO general manager Paul Peng also indicated the positive view on the Cross-Strait ATS, he hope government can establish an open competitive environment, especially with the China Trade Agreement in Goods, which will help industry to have a fair competitive environment.

Innolux said, Cross-Strait ATS is not included panel, but the company believes that an open and free competition in the market can improve international competitiveness, Innolux look forward it.

Currently, Taiwan panel have 5% tariff in China, but the South Korea's panel this year will likely tax free. Conversely, import tariffs of Taiwan panel may increase to 8-10%, will be a significant impact to Taiwan panel industry.
