TAIPEI, Taiwan – Light not only can be used to illuminate but also to transmit data, and the speed is 100 times faster than 4G, only took one second to download a movie. Lu Hai-Han, professor of department of electro-optical engineering national Taipei university, using red-emitting laser to transmit data, to achieve this amazing mark.

For carrying out the red-emitting laser high-speed wireless internet, Professor Lu had spent two years in research, which made transfer rate up to 10Gbps in return, and the transmission distance up to 17.5 meters. Lu Hai-Han said: "The transfer rate of 4G is 100Mbps, the red laser is 10Gbps, which is hundred times faster."

Professor Lu Hai-Han noted that many research teams are doing LED lighting transmission, but not fast enough, neither transmission distance. Their team uses laser ray which can transfer distance of 17.5 meters and speeds up to 10Gbps.

However, the laser light is focused beam, will easily disconnect while light be blocked or the client device be moved. Lu Hai-Han said that this technique is more suitable for use in a fixed location, such as office computer or database.

Lu Hai-Han said the technology will be fastest commercialized next year, they have talked to some vendors about technology transfer. If so, customers only need to put a receiver on their phone or computer, then can easily to access super high speed laser internet.
