Acer’s Build Your Owen Cloud (BYOC), based on the core of Acer Open Platform (AOP) framework, is a platform to provide private cloud service for business and personal users. The concept of BYOC is the combination of PC, as a BYOC’s cloud, and mobile phone or tablet, as BYOC’s endpoint, to provide consumers with private cloud service. Accordingly, Acer needs many companies to enter into BYOC alliance to create ECO system and high value together.

Shih pointed out that public cloud is winner-take-all market for service supplier such as Google, but the private cloud needed by SME and personal users is not the target of international company that gives an opportunity for Acer. However, because of the lack of ability, Acer hopes to broadly work together with other alliances, which is not only Taiwan’s companies but European, South-Asian and even Chinese companies, through uniting hardware and software capabilities one another.

He added that BYOC will be separated into business and personal users. The former is provided openly for business to construct their own framework and pay for service charge as well as entitlement in proportion.

Acer’s BYOC Alliance, hoping to integrate all of industry capability, will open on 29th MAY in Aspire Park BYOC Experience Center and the first allies will be disclosed at the same time. According to preliminary estimates, there will be 10 allies, especially the Taiwan-based manufacturers, including hardware, content and device manufacturers.
