At the Computex Summit Forum, MediaTek Chairman Ming-Kai Tsai gave a keynote speech titled "Enabling Limitless Possibilities in Cloud Era-Everyday Genius," saying that "Internet of Things" will be a "game changer" and Cloud 2.0 Era will come for real in 2020. Accompanying with the trend, Tsai added that the company will launch semi-turnkey solutions to tap growing market opportunities from IOT (Internet of Things) and wearable devices.

Prior to 2010, the technology applications were device-centric and beginning in 2010, they have entered into the cloud-centric era characterized with billions of mobile internet users. In 2020, the IOT development is expected to reach its peak with tens of billions of devices connected to the cloud, marking the arrival of Cloud 2.0 era, says Tsai.?
The statistics on cloud servers provided by Victor Weng, senior industry analyst with Taipei-headquartered research institute MIC (Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute), has supported Tsai's argument.
The global cloud server market value is forecast to arrive at US$7.86 billion in 2014, up 12.0% year-on-year, and reach US$10.7 billion in 2017, with a CAGR of 11.8% from 2012 to 2017. Of the global market value in 2014, about US$2.88 billion market value will be contributed by public cloud servers and US$4.99 billion by private cloud servers.
Tsai further added that MediaTek plans to leverage its LinkIT platform designed for developing wearables and IOT devices.
Also, as one of Acer BYOC (Build Your Own Cloud) alliance members, MediaTek also revealed that it will partner with Acer to develop applications that, by alluring more MediaTek's clients to the Acer BYOC, will create an ecosystem for the IOT to help them both cash in on the coming age of cloud computing technology.?
