Singapore to be a Foothold of MediaTek

TAIPEI, Taiwan — The importance of Singapore has rising, Taiwanese IC design firms goes to Singapore one after another. After Realtek went to Singapore to establish its subsidiary company, MediaTek also desided to expand investment in there that to set up a innovation center, and will invest NT$6 billion on consumer, medical, IoT, and Smart City in the following six years.

In fact, MediaTek has a long history in Singapore, On July 1st, they celebrated the decennial of their R&D center, and announced the official opening of their innovation center in Singapore. According to Singapore media, MediaTek has invested NT$4.3 billion in Singapore, now announced will invest NT$6 billion more to expand the size of R&D center, and to develop high speed CPU and GPU, which will be the biggesst IC design center in Singapore.

Zhang Chui-hong, Vice General Manager of MediaTek said “We will cooperate with the local company in the Smart City solution, focusing on energy-saving, consumer, medical, and industrial IoT.”

According to the authority of Singapore, MediaTek is going to team up with Panasonic, Intel, Philip to open up an IoT research center, which again proves MediaTek is devoted in IoT.

Moreover, MediaTek will unveil its 4G octa-core chipset MT6595 in Shenzhen on July 15th. Source said that it will be put into mass production on this August. China and Taiwan are stepping into the era of 4G service, it is believed that MT6595 will be the growth driver on Q4 for MediaTek.
