Kenta Yamamoto, Kengo Ichimiya and Akifumi Nakamura have been responsible for major battery developments in the last few years, and bring with them many years’ experience of fundamental research and advanced development leading to commercialisation of novel battery designs.

Yamamoto-san was previously with the Primary Battery Division of Sony, and has worked on both anode and Mg-ion cathode systems; he has been closely involved with studying Nexeon’s technology in recent years.

Ichimiya-san has worked on polymer battery technology at Sony, and has achieved important advances leading to commercial battery designs. Akifumi Nakamura has worked on silicon anodes and cell optimisation.

All three researchers will be based at Nexeon’s offices in the UK. The appointments follow that of Tsuyonobu Hatazawa, who joined Nexeon last August as Chief Technical Officer.

“We are delighted to welcome Yamamoto-san, Ichimiya-san and Nakamura-san to our operation”, said Dr Scott Brown CEO of Nexeon. “Their considerable experience will be invaluable to our development efforts, and will help us to maintain close links with our OEM partners in Asia.”

Last month, Nexeon co-hosted a UK-Japan Battery Symposium in London attended by around a hundred delegates.

Nexeon has just completed the construction and commissioning of a 20 tonnes per annum manufacturing facility at its headquarters in Oxfordshire.
