SONY Mobile Relies on Taiwanese Partner to Fight the Two Giants

TAIPEI, Taiwan — SONY values Taiwan market, Kaz Tajima, senior vice president and head of UX Creative Design and Planning at Sony Mobile first met Taiwanese media on Tuesday. He said that all the handset makers needs to challenge “two giants” in the global smartphone market, referring to Samsung and Apple. “SONY will execute guerrilla tactics to steal share from those two giants.”

Tajima said that SONY will keep teaming up with Taiwanese supply chains, and to set up a price policy to face the rising of Chinese white box handset makers.

Source said, SONY is actively in stealing the market share of Samsung and Apple, Taiwanese supply chains play important roles. Namely, MediaTek for handsets' chipsets, ELAN Microelectronics for Touch Pad Controllers, and ODM firms Arima Communications, Compal Electronics are SONY's close partners.

Tajima said, SONY has successfully applied that guerrilla tactics strategy to become one of the top three players in Japan, and the company has also been ranked among the top three smartphone vendors in Taiwan.

There are now almost 10 markets globally where SONY has achieved a market share of more than 10 percent, including Spain, Russia, Sweden, Hong Kong and India, he added.
