Taipei, Taiwan– Lantiq today announced that it is participating in a multi-year project aimed at developing new FTTdp (Fiber to the Distribution Point) network technology to support data rates up to 2 Gbit/sec, an increase of 10X compared to today’s FTTdp installations.

Lantiq, which already currently offers its Vinax™-dp single-chip solution for single-port FTTdp customer installations, is participating in the FlexDP project led by the renowned Fraunhofer Institute for Embedded Systems and Communication Technologies ESK. Also participating is InnoRoute GmBH, which will adapt its FlowEngine™ packet processor technology to meet the demands of data communications networks operating at frequencies approaching 300 MHz.

“For more than a decade, every so called technical limit to the maximum data rate possible over standard copper telecom lines has been overcome through the combination of advanced chip technology and intelligent system design,” said Alois Eder, Head of Application Engineering Broadband Access.

“The FlexDP project now aims to extend the capability of FTTdp network architectures by an order of magnitude compared to currently shipping state-of-the art access network technology, and we are very excited to be a part of this collaboration.”
