TAIPEI, Taiwan — Lighting is something that can't be missed in 21st century, no matter it's decorative lighting or performance lighting. OLED is a type of LED, which is more mild and covering more surface than LED. OLED Lighting Commercialization Alliance (OLCA) is formed today to pomote OLED, gethering members from upperstream, midstream, and downstream.
OLEDs are commonly used to create digital displays in devices such as TV screens, computer monitors, handset devices, handheld game consoles and PDAs. OLCA is formed to encourage and promote OLED both in decorative lighting and performance lighting.
According to an international survey institue, the market of solid-state lighting will be $24 billion dollars, and OLED will reach to $5.6 billion dollars in 2020.
Steven Lin, Chairperson at Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association (TLFEA), said that OLED is very ideal for indirect lighting, “as I know that the outlook of W Taipei uses a lot of OLED lighting to create the sense of low-pitched luxury, some of the luxury apartments in Taiwan has already used OLED, as well.”
“OLED now hasn't put in mass production so the price is higher than LED, but I suspect in three years OLED will be a standard lighting equipment for every family, and we Taiwan is still rank either No.1 or No.2 in lighting business worldwide.”
When asked about many question concerning the comparison between LED and OLED, “If we manufacture LED and OLED integratedly, it probably will be a new blue ocean strategy,” said C.T. Liu, Vice President & EOL at ITRI, “the endurance is not a problem both for LED and OLED, basically, one OLED can be used up to ten years.”
C.T. Liu also pointed out that in the era of IoT, OLED will be an important object in smart home usage.
