Chiawan Become the Major Rival of Samsung

TAIPEI, Taiwan — When talking about the smartphone market share, people always come up with that Apple ranks number one, Samsung comes after. However, Taiwanese component firms team up with Chinese handset companies to roll out smartphones like HUAWEI, Lenovo, and Xiaomi, which are the so-called products of “Chiawan” that rank number two in terms of the market share.

The Chiawan products are the teamwork out of Taiwan and China, the process of working collaboratively with each other in order to achieve a goal. And the goal is obviously to penetrate the market share, especially the Chiawan smartphone.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun pointed out that the Chaiwan smartphones are getting more and more market share, and has become the major rival of Samsung and Apple. The key factor is that Taiwan has excellent IC design firms like MediaTek, which help Chinese handset brands expand their maket share a lot.

Based on the TrandForce report, the top ten smartphone market share worldwide in the quarter two of 2014, Chinese handset brands occupied six out of ten, and the total market share of which is around 28 percent, comapring to Samsung 31.4 percent, a very close-run race.

HUAWEI, Lenovo, Xiaomi, Coolpad, ZTE, and Vivo have become are major Chinese smartphone brands, relying on Taiwanese componet suppliers.

Not only does MediaTek help Chinese handset brands to manufacture many savvy smartphones to gain the worldwide smartphone market share, but also Foxconn, Inventec, Wintec, AUO, and Newmax Technology Co.

Though HTC isn't listed on the top ten worldwide smartphone market share, it still ranked number on in Taiwan on July in terms of sales of smartphone units, followed by ASUS and Samsung.
