Lei Jun: Xiaomi to Surpass Samsung in 5 to 10 years

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Lei Jun, Founder and CEO of the world's third largest smartphone distributor, said at the CSMIC 2015 that the company will surpass Samsung in five to ten years from now.

Lei Jun claimed smart home devices that link to personal handheld devices via cloud computing will be the major market trend in the next five years, but he didn't see many Taiwanese manufacturers working on this business opportunity yet.

Lei Jun, who is also a Co-Founder of Cheetah Mobile attened the Cross-Strait Mobile Internet Conference (CSMIC) in Taipei on January 13, suggested that Taiwanese who wish to establish their own businesses should focus on mobile Internet and smart home devices.

“Many of my Taiwanese friends have complained that they are constrained by Taiwan's rather limited market, but if you launch a mobile application on Google Play or Apple Store, you have the global market. When Cheetah Mobile was established a few years ago, there were only three to four people writing mobile apps.” Lei said.

Furthermore, Lei forecast smart home devices that link to personal handheld devices via cloud computing will be the major market trend in the next five years, adding that Xiaomi is also working on this sector. However, he expressed didn't see many Taiwanese manufacturers working on this business opportunity yet.

He gave a positive review of Xiaomi's prospect, saying that he is confident the company will surpass Samsung to be the world's largest smartphone distributor in five to ten years.
