TSMC to Retrieve The Leading Position of 16nm in 2016

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) held its fourth quarter of 2014 investor conference on January 15, Chairperson Morris Zhang presented along with two Co-CEO Mark Liu and C.C. Wei. The Chairperson said that their 16 nanometer market share will surpass all the other rivals in 2016, will be back to the leading status and continue the dominance for a few years.

Morris Zhang said that though currently the company is fallen behind of 16 nanometer process in this year, its 20 nanometer plus 16 nanometer will still top their rivals in terms of market share.

“TSMC's 16 nanometer process market share will surpass our rivals in 2016, will be back to the leading status and continue the dominance for a few years.” said Morris Zhang.

When asked about the outlook of the first quarter of 2015, Morris Zhang gave a positive reviews, saying that the company's performance of the second to fourth quarter of this year will better than the first quarter.

Regarding to the advanced process, Mark Liu expressed 16 nanometer ultra-low power (ULP) will be put into mass production in June that is mainly designed for usage of wearables, while C.C. Wei claimed that 16 nanometer will contribute to its revenue at the fourth quarter.

According to TSMC, 10 nanometer is still under the research and design stage, which will be put into limited production and tape ou by the end of this year.
