Over 80% Cloud Computing Patents Still Focus on Computing Technology

According to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute)’s recent report that patent deployment is highly concentrated on Computing Technology field, which accounts for 81.8%. Coupled with the other four fields of Telecommunications, Digital Communication, Basic Communication Processes, and Audio-visual Technology, the consolidated share of those five fields reaches around 96.1%.

"This indicated that users are able to conduct digital communications with others on their devices with service content created by computing technology and audio-visual technology. Or, with service content created by computing technology and audio-visual technology, users are able to conduct digital communications on their devices and connect to data center servers for computing and storage services," says David Chen, senior industry analyst with MIC.
The Taipei-based ICT research institute further found that the combined share of patents in several fields, including - Instruments; Mechanical Engineering; Medical Technology; Optics; Engines, Pumps, Turbines; Handling; Machine Tools; Textile and Paper Machines; Other Special Machines; Transport; Furniture, Games - reached merely 0.6%.
This reflected that several user-end devices like instruments and machines are not yet connected to the cloud. For those who take aim at the cloud computing industry, aside from smartphones and PCs, they are advised to connect more devices in the medical, mechanical, transport and furniture fields to the cloud and to acquire more cloud computing-related patents.
