NB Shipments to Decline 4.3% in 2016, Says by Taiwan Research

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan’s MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute) pointed out that Notebook(NB) shipments will decrease by 4.3% in 2016, because of the limited benefit from NB replacement of Win 10 and the market erosion by 2-in-1 PCs.

This year, NB market was disrupted by Win 10 announcement, inducing the wait-and-see effect for world’s retailers and thus the need of emerging markets declines. According to MIC’s prediction, the shipments in 2015 will amount to 1,610 million, a decrease of 6.2% y-o-y, to be the second highest recession rate in the past five years.
Moreover, the free Win 10 update strategy will diminish the next year’s need for NB, simultaneously Microsoft ‘s subsidized low-cost NB plan is going to expire this year with the addition of the market erosion by 2-in-1 PCs, NB shipments in 2016 will decline to 1,550 million, a decrease of 3.9% y-o-y.
By contrast, regard of Desktops, MIC believes that Intel ‘s new Skylake processor will stimulate the next year’s growth of Desktops and predicts that the Desktops shipment will amount to 1,210 million, a slight increase of 1.3% compared to 2015.
