TAIPEI, Taiwan — HTC Corp’s share of the US smartphone market continued to fall in the third quarter prior to the launch of the company’s One A9 handset, according to a report published on Nov. 6 by market research firm comScore Inc. Even worse is, a local survey indicates that One A9 defeats Apple’s iPhone 6S but more people would choose to buy an iPhone next time due to better brand value and product experience.

HTC’s market share loss came ahead of an October 20 launch of One A9, which is the first non-Nexus smartphone powered by Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

The report from comScore said that HTC’s US market share slid by 0.1 percentage points sequentially to 3.3 percent in the third quarter, maintaining its fifth-place ranking.

Nevertheless, A local survey from Foreseeing Innovative New Digiservices (FIND) center, a research arm of the state-funded Institute for Information Industry (III) of consumer buying intention released on November 9 found that HTC’s One A9 defeats Apple’s iPhone 6S in comparison of hardware specifications, even though more people would choose to buy an iPhone next time due to better brand value and product experience.

Surprisingly, among the five comparison categories, the HTC One A9 is rated better than the iPhone 6S in terms of storage capacity, processor, camera features and screen resolution, while iPhone 6S only wins in terms of appearance and color.
