Augustine Lien stated, “Taiwan’s overall economy is in bad shape, its economic growth sunk to a six-year low in the second quarter, and more recent data suggest it remained stuck in the doldrums in the third quarter as well as industrial production contracted sharply in August and exports tallied a notable fall in September.”

Augustine Lien gave another example by pointing out that the largest mobile chip supplier MediaTek saw its second quarter net profit drop 49 percent from a year ago. Plus, “Nikkei Asian Review forecast the GDP growth of Taiwan for 2015 cut to 1.56 percent.”

Most important of all, Taiwan’s ICT industry has been contributing significantly to the prosperity of Taiwan, but declines rapidly in the past 1 to 2 years. Therefore, “Applying ICT in medical field could help.” said Augustine Lien. He suggested there are many ways to apply ICT to medical use, Aulisa is one of which.

Augustine Lien emphasized that a patient dies every 5 minutes in a US hospital due to the spot-check from nurse. Therefore, having wearable devices around is a must for critical ill patients.

Furthermore, Augustine Lien introduced that an ideal integration of ICT and MT should have the following product specifications: miniaturized, non-invasive wearable, vital sign data accurate, wireless and continuous monitoring, real-time monitoring and cover the cloud concurrently, vital signs with audio and video functions, alarm, for all important vital signs, for all patients and either at home or in hospital.

To illustrate, Aulisa’s Guardian Angel is designed for monitoring vital signs, namely heart rate, blood pressure, lung function, respiratory rate, heart activity, ECG, blood oxygen, blood glucose, body temperature and. perfusion index.

Moreover, Imec is going to introduce Zembro here in Taiwan in December, which is a smart bracelet designed to enable the elderly to connect with their relatives immediately, anytime and anywhere.
