XINBEI, Taiwan — Advantech, Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) and HwaCom Systems Inc. announced their collaboration of the mobile data terminal (MDT) and signed the MOU on November 19. Chaney Ho, President of Advantech, pinned high hopes on the MDT, saying that it will help taxi drivers to compete with the emerging and sweeping Uber app.

Chaney Ho stated, “It’s very exciting to announce this customized and service-oriented, 7-inch MDT in my hometown. I hope that this device will help taxi drivers to compete with Uber app.”

In fact, this MDT is not only designed for taxi drivers, but also all the commercial vehicle. On this “4G Intelligent Systems (ITS) of Digital Logistics and Fleet Management Collaborative Project” CHT offers the total integragtion service of ITS telematics management platform, while Advantech and HwaCom deliver the MDT in a bid to realize this project.

The wider bandwidth of 4G enables the video transmission easily that realizes the integration of vehicle dispatching, security monitoring through cloud, multimedia interaction and intelligent user interfaces and vehicle navigation all in one MDT. “The device even tells passenger what to eat and what to see nearby.” said Van Lin, Director at Industrial Mobile Computing of Advantech.

Van Lin stated that with this MDT on board, vehicle location, tracking and management can be a SOP, which prevent unexpected events from happening. “On top of that, it could change the mindset of drivers. What’s more, it saves insurance cost.”

Furthermore, Advantech plans to have the MDT on board for all the taxi in Taoyuan by the second quarter of 2016.
