Macronix and IBM Continue to Jointly Develop on Phase Change Memory Technology

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan-based Macronix, a manufacturer in the Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) market, will continuously cooperate with IBM to develop Phase Change Memory (PCM). The partnership between Macronix and IBM has been more than 10 years.

Macronix has been made in collaboration with IBM since 2005, when a research alliance formed by Macronix, IBM and Infineon to aimed to develop the new technology of Phase Change Memory(PCM).

The collaboration project has been carried out since then and will be expired on January 21, 2016. Today, Macronix Board of Directors approve to extend the project period with IBM to carry on the collaboration of PCM development.

Macronix said that the project will extend for a period of up to 24 months beyond the original expiration date. Through the collaboration with IBM, Macronix could share the R&D expense and strengthen technical competitiveness.
