TSMC Chairman and CEO Morris Chang last Thursday paid a personal visit to Nanjing to preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for TSMC’s Nanjing factory.

TSMC stated that they decided to establish a service center in Nanjing for the sake of nearby service clients. TSMC’s OIP ecosystem will enter Mainland China and assist Chinese IC design companies to develop the semiconductor industry.

As for the 12-inch manufacturing facility, it will begin 16-nm production and become the first 12-inch factory capable of on-site production of 16-nm. It will also be TSMC’s first 12-inch factory in Mainland China.

Morris Chang at the groundbreaking ceremony emphasized that Mainland China is actively developing its semiconductor industry, and TSMC can lend a helping hand. However, TSMC also hopes there will be an environment of fair competition in Mainland China.
