TAIPEI, Taiwan – At Touch Taiwan 2016, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), a Taiwanese government-owned technology R&D organization, once again demonstrated its foldable technology, and it was getting better and better in terms of display quality, application variety and production facility.
Foresaw the bright future of flexible display, ITRI started its flexible OLED technology research over ten years ago, and became a main engine of Taiwan’s flexible display industry. Its patented technologies had licensed to Taiwan’s main LCD makers, including AUO and CPT.
This year, ITRI showcased thirty-six items of flexible display and touch technologies, including organic 350◦C unyellowed flexible transparent substrate, high temperature resistant transparent filling material and foldable abrasion resistance protective layer for OLED touch panel. And along with large area submicron patterned equipment.
These new demonstrations indicated that Taiwan’s flexible OLED display technologies is getting more mature and shorting the distance of commercial stage. However, the needs of end market are still in the very early stage, no much exciting product are being developed. But it is nice to see these progresses been made.
