TomTom, Baidu Join Forces to Develop UHD Maps for Autonomous Driving

TomTom (TOM2) and Baidu (BIDU) announced today that they have joined forces to develop high definition (HD) maps for autonomous driving...

TomTom HD Map and RoadDNA are two highly accurate digital map based products helping automated vehicles precisely locate themselves on the road and plan manoeuvres, even when traveling at high speeds.

“With the trend toward autonomous driving quickly becoming a reality, TomTom is excited to collaborate with Bosch to demonstrate the precision of our map products,” said Pieter Gillegot-Vergauwen, Vice President, Maps Product Management, TomTom.

“We hope that Bosch’s demo vehicle, equipped with TomTom’s HD Map and RoadDNA, will lead to further acceleration of the development of autonomous vehicles and greater confidence in the safety, efficiency, and comfort these vehicles will deliver.”

Mid 2015, TomTom and Bosch announced that it would partner on innovative mapping technology for autonomous driving. Under this agreement, TomTom is designing the necessary maps, while Bosch, on the basis of its systems engineering work, is defining the specifications these maps have to meet.
