Taiwan Will Spend Four Years Developing Core AI Supply Chain Technology

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan's government is currently actively promoting the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in Taiwan, and with applications ranging from software to hardware they are hoping to create an innovative AI ecosystem. From 2018 to 2021, NT$1 billion will be invested each year in the development of core AI supply chain technologies.

Taiwan's Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) has already mapped out a plan for the development of AI, which includes infrastructure construction, education of talent, and key technologies.

For key technologies, MOST will spend an annual NT$1 billion, totaling NT$4 billion in funding, developing the “Forward-Looking Semiconductor Manufacturing and Chip Development Plan” in order to increase the speed of development of core technology R&D for AI supply chains. Dozens of Taiwanese manufacturers are expected to participate in the program.

For infrastructure construction, funding will be provided for the construction of a “Cloud Service and High-Speed Computing Platform” at a scale of NT$5 billion over four years to meet the requirements of AI development.

In addition, MOST will establish three to four “AI Innovation R&D Centers” at universities and will invest NT$1 billion annually, which will total NT$5 billion over five years, in order to comprehensively develop key core AI technologies and smart applications
