Epistar’s board resolved to establish Jingcheng Semiconductor as a 100% new subsidiary company in order to simplify the separate allocation of semiconductor OEM operations. Jingcheng Semiconductor is the first full-process VCSEL company which manufactures from epitaxial to chip, and their 6-inch semiconductor factory currently has a production capacity of 2,000 chips.

Epistar’s main optoelectronics products are blue-ray LED and AlGainP, which accounted for 65% and 35% of the company’s revenue respectively. Epistar Chairman Dr. Biing-Jye Lee is very optimistic about the future prospects of Mini LED and believes that in terms of price and picture quality, Mini LED can successfully compete with OLED. With a yearly NT$200 million in total global sales, OLED has a penetration rate of approximately 1.5% in comparison to the annual high-end television market of 3 million units.

After splitting the company, Epistar will fully devote themselves to the development of Mini LED and Micro LED, and they estimate that in 2020 Mini LED will account for 30% to 40% of their total revenue.
