With the continual growth in the amount of mobile devices, currently the majority of videos and photos are taken using mobile devices. According to an IDC survey, seven out of every ten photos are taken by smartphones. However, according to the results of InsightXplorer’s study, as many as 68.8% of mobile device users lose important data before realizing the importance of regularly backing up the data on their mobile devices.

According to the survey, over 65.4% of interviewees were willing to pay money to recover lost data, and among them, 50% were willing to pay up to NT$4,000. However, the rate was much higher for subjects who had lost data in the past.

This shows that the higher the users’ level of dependency on mobile devices, the higher the value of the personal data stored on the devices. Nevertheless, 70% of mobile device users are not in the habit of regularly backing up their data.

The study found that users select mobile device data backup services according to the following three main points of consideration: convenience (46.6%), storage amount (45.8%), and data-privacy (42.2%). 32% of users are concerned about data security in cloud systems, and 41% of users believe that their current storage capacity is insufficient.

At the same time, 62% also believe that doing backups with PC devices is too complicated, and 46.3% believe that computer synchronization is too time consuming.

In addition, nearly 20 % of users who chose not to back up their mobile devices believe that the storage space in cloud backup services is insufficient.
