The results of the forecast were derived from a survey where participants were given images and descriptions of wearable devices that were unbranded, and then used with an algorithm to predict a score of one to ten based on the participants' answers, with ten being the best score, forecasting a sales success, and one being the lowest score. The Acer Liquid Leap was given a score of seven.
In addition to the results, the survey also provided some unique insight into consumer interest regarding wearable devices. They included higher attention for fitness bands, when compared to other types of wearable devices, and the high importance of pricing as a key factor in influencing a purchase decision. All of the top performing devices on the survey were expected to be available in a price range below US$100.
“We are delighted that Acer’s very first wearable device has been identified as a potential best seller and recognized by consumers as one of their top picks,” said Jason Chen, Acer Corporate President and CEO.
“Today Acer continues to stay true to its mission to break down barriers between people and technology, by making the latest technologies accessible to the many and not the few. The Liquid Leap is the best example of this yet.”
