Omate is a recently established smartwatch company, which has raised capital through the global fundraising website, KickStarter, and has raised millions of dollars in one short month. Omet’s TrueSmart Watch2.0 was selected as one of Forbes’ CES top 5 smart watches.

At the beginning of this year, Omate introduced this model of smartwatch in Taiwan, and at the time the recommended retail price was NT$9,399. The pricing of Omate’s new product, made in collaboration with MediaTek, will also be a point of focus for the market, and they have disclosed that MediaTek chips for wearable devices will be a key part of the pricing strategy.

MediaTek this year has launched the new low power consumption and small-sized “Aster” chip. Aimed at the wearable devices and Internet of things market, it will allow for a battery life of five to seven days. Currently, “Aster” has already been in production since August, and it will be available to customers when it begins hitting the market in September and October.

Currently MediaTek has three major types of wearable device clients that can be divided into the following markets: watches, bracelets, and products for automotive use. However, this year these markets are still in their initial stages; therefore, there will not be mass shipments for products.

In addition to the new “Aster” chip, MediaTek is also developing the new integrated operating system platform, “LinkIt,” and will release models this month.
